The best sub £500 lens for any Sony Alpha,
After trying countless supposedly good lenses below £300 (you know which 3rd party & Sony branded ones), I bit the bullet and splashed out on the Tamron 70-300 USD, which unlike the Canon & NIkon one’s does’nt come with VC (vibration control), solely because the Sony has it’s own anti-shake system onboard (super steady shot), I’ve had the lens for a few months now and always shoot wide open, the qaulity is astounding, 300mm at f5.6 produces photo’s that the beercan etc can only dream about. Because it’s usd it is very quiet and is fast, in low light it does slow a little, when mounted it does look a beast and the “very” big lens hood adds quite a bit to the size.
Image qaulity wise the next lens up is the much dearer Sony SSM lens, compare the two and there would probably be very little in it.
Downers; that overly big lens hood is a monster, when reverse fitted you cannot zoom properly so either have to take it off or fit it, even though f5.6 shots are sharp etc it could do with being a bit quicker for lower lighting shots, but that’s just nit picking.
An awesome lens that literally wipes the floor with everything I’ve used before within my budget, NEW & OLD (sub £350).
