This is a great little camera with the emphasis on little! One of the neatest packages imaginable, it has the lot including 1030 video! If it has a fault, it's that it is not quite quick enough to respond for, say wildlife. There is a definite lag after you press the shutter release whilst it focusses and works out exposure. I tried to photograph some dolphins jumping and all I've got is tails in the water!

I decided to upgrade from my Canon Ixus 50,which was an absolute revelation when it came out, to the Ixus 130. The 50 is still perfect and my brother is delighted with it, his first digicam. The 130 is a design masterpiece - so small, I could not see it in the box at first, but surprisingly although thinner it is slightly longer and taller. Lightweight but solidly constructed & easily fits in your pocket. Fundamentally, the controls are very similar, but more intuitive, so you do not need to digest volumes of complicated instructions. If you want a point and shoot, you cannot go wrong with this. It also has plenty of functionality, a wide angle lens for group and vista shots as well as a telephoto & the vids are amazing. If you are a real camera head, you will want to keep your SLR, but a pound to a penny, you cannot resist a compact for portability and versatility. This is simple to use and also has many advanced features, which help you take the perfect shot. If you want to get a lot more techie, you can use the program mode. I am going to have fun with this and you will too. I will update my review in a few months after I have given it a complete road test.

UPDATE OF IXUS 130
This camera will re-awaken your interest in photography. I used it on two holidays & the difference in quality between the earlier Ixus 50 & this is simply staggering. I would not have thought it possible. Point & shoot is superb, but it is easy to switch to programs specifically for sunny beach shots, sun-sets etc & zoom in on detail other cameras can not get to. Amazing, I am so pleased.

As with all the other positive reviews I don't have anything extra to add EXCEPT CHOOSING THE CORRECT SDHC CARD for this and any other quality camera using HD video recording. If you wish to make video recordings of a longer duration than 25/35 seconds, make sure you choose an SD card that is at least a MINIMUM CLASS 4. I recently bought this camera, a case and an 8 gb SD card as advertised by Amazon which stated that most people purchased it 'when buying this camera' (which happened to be a CLASS 2). When my recordings were being cut short to less than half a minute, I scoured the internet to see if anybody else had this problem-and yes they had-but no answers as to why. After scrolling through various Canon literature, I found in the small print it says quite nonchalantly "don't use an SD card of a lower value than Class 4 or your recording could stop at any given time.." - this quote isn't verbatim but is the general crux. I am not forwarding any blame on Amazon or Canon but I think that there should be a recommendation of a minimum value SD card and what would happen if you ignored the advice.
Of course, should you wish to make 'mini recordings' of just a few seconds then the standard Class 2 is for you. Needless to say, there is a jump in price for the higher Class 4. I hope this review is of help to anyone about to choose this or maybe any other quality camera that has the fabulous HD feature.

The first of your pictures - the one which everyone sees first - is not correct for this item - please delete.

This lens adaptor, necessary for connecting the 58mm Close-up Lens, TC-DC58N Tele-converter and WC-DC58N Wide-converter to a Canon Powershot G6 digital camera, is typical Canon quality and does the job - what else?

Take care to buy the right adaptor for your particular Powershot model.

Really good camera, but the battery life could be a little better. It's good on a night out, spesh with the camera screen viewable on front so you can see what your taking!

I bought this just before xmas, and went to use it for the first time on new years eve. when i went to put it in my handbag I noticed that one of the dials was missing. i have not dropped this or even taken it out of the house so i will be trying to get a full refund.

In case it isn't obvious from the photo and description, this is not a Lens Pen as we know it. The genuine article has a retractable brush at one end and a felt pad at the other. This version has a smaller brush which tends to lose its bristles, and a spray head which is fed from a fluid reservoir within the body. I've no idea what the fluid is, but of course you need a cloth to wipe and dry the lens afterwards. This rather negates the convenience of the device, so it's rather pointless. The Hama or Amazon Basics Lens Pens are closer to the real thing, and much more useful.

As you'd want and expect, this flash sync cord allows you a greater degree of flexibility when using your Speedlight. Instead of being stuck on top of your camera, you're free to position your flash wherever you like in relation to your subject. This not only gives you control of which direction your shadows will go. It also lets you position the Speedlight closer or further away as well as making bounce flash much quicker and easier, no holding in buttons to rotate that flash head anymore! Just point it where you need it.

Although the SC-29 does everything that I would expect of it; I have to admit that it is quite expensive. A fair bit more than I would expect to pay for a cord to be honest. But you do get quality for your money including a handy locking male connector for the safety of you and your gear.

The only other downside is that by holding your flash in one hand, you only have one hand left for your camera, which can cause problems with operating your cameras controls. If you're handholding, it can also make holding the camera still quite difficult.

One last thing that you may be wondering is: is it worth my money to go for the SC-29 instead of the cheaper SC-28? The difference being that the SC-29 has a built in AutoFocus Illuminator and the SC-28 does not.

I have both sync cords and I would probably say no. If you shoot subjects that frequently give your cameras AF problems then you may benefit from the AF illuminator but personally my D300 has never had any such problems and I rarely use the AF assist when on camera or off so I would say: if cost is an issue then save yourself the slight difference in price and go for the 99% identical SC-28.

I bought this because I have a Canon Legria video camera, and I liked the idea of having the same kind of strap for my Canon 40D as the one that came with the Legria since that one is comfortable, secure, and keeps your fingers in reach of the most important controls.

I had already done my research so I knew ahead of time that you needed the battery grip to fit this, and that the fitting instructions come with the grip and not with the strap.

However I was not prepared for how utterly useless, nay obstructive, this thing is when you are trying to use the camera in portrait orientation. You obviously can't use it as a hand strap when shooting from the portrait grip as it runs down the memory card side of the camera, which becomes the top when using the grip in portrait orientation, and I found that it just got in the way and annoyed the hell out of me. This seems quite bizarre seeing as for most EOS cameras you can't actually use the strap unless you own and install a portrait/battery grip. I'm also not a fan of having to attach or remove a strap every time I want to add or remove my grip.

As is always the case with Canon stuff, build quality is great but it comes with a price tag to match.
Four stars because it works great in landscape mode. Minus one because a strap you can only use with a portrait grip should not be half useless as part of that combination, much less frustrate one's efforts to shoot portraits.
